Sounds like a million bucks, insanely solid. Aged to nice cream white. Bill Wyman famously played a white short scale Travis Bean bass. There's just something about white Travis Beans. In a world where people pay $6000 for a shiny new TBD, the equivalent of a fake Rolex, it really speaks volumes about the real thing. The kids of today are so easy to fool, because all they have is the internet and all it’s misinformation, have fun with all that. One instagram photo and they’ll join a cult. Thank God for the real thing. I wouldn’t be caught dead with a fake. The legends are dead, the venues are gone, the industry is gone, the vibes don’t exist, but we have the relics. And what a thing of beauty.
Shimmed nut was loose so was reattached by my veteran luthier. Nut slots are on the deep side.
A new modern brass TB nut is $25 or you can absolutely still work with the original. Entire guitar has been inspected, cleaned, polished, oiled, set up. Body has wear, but it's cool and it's real. frets have wear. What you might call a heavy relic, but it's all natural. Clearly this bass was very heavily played and loved. It's not hard to see why he played this bass so much, it's a very strong one.
As a good TB2000, It's just in a league of it's own, as any great instrument is. Not going to achieve this sound and power with another instrument.
Then it sat in it's case for 30 years. Photos taken before fretboard and tuner cleaning, before pro nut shim and glue.
The most impressive thing about this bass when I first plugged it in was the sound. It's so powerful. There's some white basses out there, but you won't find them for sale. The painted ones are coveted. A white TB2000 is about as sexy as it gets. Only Travis Bean would have the audacity to paint Koa. Knobs are not original to the guitar. Does not have original switch tip. Another great feature of a TB2000 is where the bridge lies in relation to the body. As with the Travis Bean guitars, what we have here is brilliant design.
Fretboard has been oiled up. Includes original hardshell Travis Bean case. I'll try and find time to post some demos.
