for sale vintage tweed 1959 Fender Bassman, widely considered the greatest guitar amp of all time. fire this thing up, not hard to see why. this amp sounds incredibly good, about as good as it gets.

amp has been serviced at the highest possible level by a real talent. amp was fully restored and re-tweed'd and lacquered by tom webb, aged correctly. as you can tell from the photo next to the three 50's Deluxes, it looks legit. extremely clean, top of the line restoration job. amp was on stage at the Greek Theater in LA (used by Blasters) recently, and everyone was fooled by the aged tweed. amp sounded like a million bucks on the big stage, astonishing really. speakers are replacement Weber P10Q (for what it's worth, the original 1950's jensens are only about $250 each). these weber speakers have repro/aged back stickers on them so they look the part. this is a high end reworking, highest level, extremely beautiful as you can tell from the photos.
3 prong cord added, death cab removed. original transformers. original panels and plates. it's all original condition except the speakers and tolex. caps replaced as needed with jupiters. has RCA tubes installed.
i got this bassman in a trade with mike ness, the king of the fender bassman. lower back panel, inside, on new tweed, was signed by mike. also includes a COA from him, also signed. amp sounds holy grail. i bought vintage speakers for it but never installed because sounds so good as is. maintains fidelity amazingly at lower voltages. amp functions as new, with no issues to speak of. mind blowing fidelity and richness of tone. use a variac (american made) and get completely manageable volume levels, extend tube life, etc.

in a day and age when people are paying over $5000 for pedals, and $30,000 for boring modern kiln dried gibson guitars, the tweeds are the most under-appreciated under-valued thing in the guitar market.

When I lived in Boston back in the late 80's, I drove down to Cesar Diaz's house and traded my all original, near mint tweed Bassman for a beautiful '62 cherry red ES-345 he had. He took that amp to the Power Station in NY the very next day and sold it to SRV, who then proceeded to use it all over the In Step album they were recording at the time. This amp sounds like that one. So cue up Caught in the Crossfire, or any of the other tunes on that disc if you want to know what this amp can sound like. Stevie was quoted as saying it was the most consistent of the 30 or so amps they had in the studio and it became one of his top amps from that point on. I credit that to the fact that it wasn't a beat up, wore out one (those can sound incredible, too) rather the speakers were fresh and tight. This one I have listed is like that. Fresh and tight but still has that golden vintage tone. Zero harshness, zero ice pick.
I have been fortunate to have owned 5 or 6 original Bassmans over years so I know what they're about and what a good one sounds like. This is a good one.
Recapped with the best aftermarket caps available, Jupiter caps. Weber speakers P10Q style, new handle (comes with original), aged lacquer tweed recover. Tom, the owner of the amp i purchased it from, is probably the best at doing vintage tweed recovers that look 100% original.
