this is a masterpiece 1978 travis bean in factory black serial #1556
this guitar has certainly spent most of it's life in the case, and aside from a couple small dings and the buckle rash, it shows very little traditional player wear. the frets still have the original crown from what i can tell.
sale includes the original travis bean case which is in very good condition.
neck profile is standard C. it's not the small, thin neck that he did, and it's not the huge 59 les paul neck. this a traditional C neck. the nut width is 1 5/8ths.
this is a late serial number, wide horn, has a thin body, has a thin fretboard, and is very low weight coming in at under 9lbs which is super rare. pickups measure at about 11.5 to 11.8 but act more like lower output pickups.
none of the harshness, shrillness, etc. i'd have to say this is the first one i've ever come across where i don't have to lower the treble on the amp or limit the guitar to certain styles of amps. to me, this guitar comes across as a refined instrument.
comfort and versatility. you can plug this guitar into a marshall all day long without any harshness or weirdness. with the super comfortable thin body, in the hands it feels more like a TB500 than a thick, heavy TB1000. this is a more refined, more sophisticated travis bean than i have ever played. feels, plays and sounds like silk. this is a very high end instrument, no doubt. this is the single best travis bean i've ever had the pleasure of playing. and it's black! righteous, legendary, unparalleled guitar tone.
thin body, light weight. nut height is perfect.
guitar has buckle rash, but because it's a black guitar you can quickly forget about it.
finish (aside from any scratches or dings) is like a mirror in certain places. looks like a brand new guitar from 2 feet away. the metal parts when i received the guitar were not dirty, it needed very little cleaning or polishing. no dings or ugly stuff with the back of the neck, it's in very fine shape.
the frets are like new, guitar never been serviced or touched. it has been fully inspected, cleaned, polished, all wiring original and is ready to ship fedex ground. sale price includes fedex shipping & insurance in original case.
