2013 Echopark Clarence Custom "Downtown" Black Rose Case Study
Weighing in at 8lbs
This is the original #001 Downtown Rose with a phenomenal korina neck and swamp ash body. Extraordinary, exceptional tonal qualities, guaranteed world-class tone.
The Black Rose was nicknamed Downtown Rose because it was made for a customer in Downtown LA (myself). This is an LA guitar through & through made in the original Echopark, CA factory off Alvarado St.
Many famous guitar players have played this phenomenal guitar in studio, quite a list. Only gigged once, when used on stage with Stevie Wonder & Jackson Browne. Has been used in product literature, has Echopark Case Study status. Having played dozens of these wonderful guitars over the years, I would consider it one of the best made to date. It certainly stands out in a serious way and produces very fine, rarified tone, superior to the maple neck versions. I would consider the neck to be the standout feature of the guitar, aside from the overall unbelievable tone in every pickup position with any amp. It has an old world feel to it, old woods do feel better in the hands.
This old school, juicy woody tone - it's all in the wood. The pickups are the icing on the cake. The craftsmanship is top of the line. The wood is what makes this particular guitar so special. This is not a Telecaster nor does it sound like one.
Korina neck, 1959 Les Paul Standard neck profile with a slight V up top (the Echopark specialty). A perfect version of Gabe's specialty. 25.5 standard Fender scale length. The neck is so perfect that it almost seems machined, it doesn't have that overwhelmingly hand made, inconsistent feeling that a lot of hand-carved necks have. This Korina carve is a 10 out of 10. Perfect neck. You could use this neck as a template. Everyone who has played this guitar has expressed similar sentiments. 6105-size medium jumbo Jescar fret wire. When you hold the neck in your hands you instantly get a feeling that you're holding something special. It's like the feeling you get when you hold a great 1950's neck in your hands and go "oh man". Has very light, normal player wear, no dings or defects.
Another big standout quality here is the pickups, it's very sweet what happens when you plug it in, and how versatile it can be. It's a very tough, strong, solid guitar. The bridge pickup is like the best low output 1950's Tele pickup you can imagine, Arcane's "49 Broadcaster". The neck is the standard hand wound 6.5K Gold Coil. The combination of this neck with these low output pickups is one of the sweetest tones I've heard, ever. You will sit there all day. You will find it very, very difficult to put this guitar down. It's a very juicy tone and can be applied to any amp of style of music. Guitar records exceptionally well, just grade A top notch, as good as it gets. Makes for a world-class slide guitar. Incredible and true vintage tones, superior modern playability and feel. This guitar sounds unique to itself, it's an extremely good way. The neck like one of the best feeling things I've ever felt in a guitar neck, and I've owned 5 of these. In my opinion, this is a holy grail Echopark. The blonde Korina matches the dark brown fretboard & gray and extremely well, truly gorgeous.
A stunning, and phenomenally unique silky smooth hand carved guitar. Feels like a million bucks, this is indeed one of the great Echoparks out there. Guitar is 4 years old, made in Echopark, has always been kept in it's case, smoke-free environment, still has awesome faint nitro smell. Beautiful vintage style design, top of the line, there is no alternative. One of the best guitar builders in the world, this is one of his best guitars.
Is this one of the best sounding & playing guitars I have every played? Yes, it is.
